Phase one completed: the shell of our new building is finished

The outer shell of our new hospital has been erected and we are busy working on the details of the internal space now. From this angle, it may not look huge, but there’s a vast area of space for waiting room, consultation rooms and working clinical areas inside.

We hope to have this finished by mid-summer, if all goes to plan. Check our Facebook or Shuttercal pages for more regular updates.

Construction of our new animal hospital has started

We’ve cleared the site and erected the site fencing – at last, our new, purpose-built Brayvet building is on its way. The site of the project – the far end of our current car park – has been screened off and the diggers have arrived.

It’s going to be a short, efficient construction process – we should be welcoming you into our new animal hospital by the start of June.

By the way, we will be open as normal throughout the project – there is still plenty of parking available, as you’ll see from the photo below. To keep you up to date with our project, we’ll be posting regular photos to our Facebook and Shuttercal pages.

Give a Stray Dog Christmas Dinner

Every year in December, BrayVet helps to co-ordinate local support of animal rescue groups in our area. There is no holiday for the hard working volunteers who rescue and care for unwanted animals. Rescued dogs and cats need to be fed, watered and cleaned every day, including Christmas Day.

As a gesture of support, we ask members of the public to leave in donations – both food and funds – to our reception desk. We then pass them on to local animal rescue groups.

Brayvet’s puppy parties

It’s now well-known that it’s essential for puppies to have happy relaxed experiences as they grow up. If they’re kept in too much isolation, they end up being frightened by normal experiences of modern life. For this reason, we run regular puppy parties at Brayvet, allowing pups to meet other pups in a calm safe environment. This allows pups to get used to the normal social interactions when they’re young, so that they’ll be friendlier, more relaxed dogs when they grow up.

Get a free dental check up for your pet from a Brayvet nurse

Over 80% of dogs over the age of three have gum disease, yet most owners think that their pets have good oral health. Dogs with healthy, clean teeth live for longer than dogs with advanced dental disease. The bacteria from a diseased mouth can spread to elsewhere in the body, affecting the heart and kidneys.

Dogs’ teeth are similar to human teeth: without regular home care, problems develop more rapidly. Ideally, owners should learn to brush their pets’ teeth regularly; dental chews can also play a role in minimising the build up of tartar.

Dental problems are common: if you are worried about your pet, a Brayvet nurse will be happy to have a look at your pet’s mouth: if veterinary intervention is needed, she will be happy to let you know what would be involved if you wish to follow that route.

How well behaved is your dog? Have you ever tried dog training classes? If not, maybe it’s something to think about. There are dog training classes every Sunday, organised by Julie Holmes of Tag N Rye Dog Training. They take place in our carpark, and if you want to join Julie is the person to contact.

We tend to use this website for long term, static information. If you want to know what’s happening in our clinic, our Facebook page is a better place to look. We use this actively, several times a week when possible, and more often sometimes, to post information and events. In particular, we have recently started to use it to post details of some of the animals that we treat, to help spread information about pet care. And it’s interactive – if you post comments to our Facebook page, we’ll usually respond reasonably promptly.
